Killing of female foetus inside womb is a major reason behind declining sex ratio and has attracted attention of government and non-governmental organisations both. The government has enacted PC-PNDT Act, but the compliance has been tardy.

Dharti is tackling the problem with support from Madhya Pradesh Voluntary Health Association (MPVHA).


  • Strengthen capacity of members of PC-PNDT Advisory Committees and Sub Committees for effective implementation of PC-PNDT Act in the district
  • Strengthen capacity CBOs/PRIs to raise the issues related to sex selection
  • Carry out IEC intervention and social mobilisation
  • Creating awareness on declining sex ratio and monitor ultra sonography centres


  • Orientation-cum-senitisation workshop for sonologists, religious leaders and civil society
  • Gandhi giri, rath yatra, media workshop, monitoring and follow-up of sonography centers
  • Tracking of the pregnant women who have gone through the ultra sonography centres
  • Distribution of IEC material for mass awareness
